Georgia is a Christian country
with an ancient history and culture and has its own alphabet and
language. It is situated between Europe and Asia. To the east,
Georgia shares a border with Russia, while Turkey, Armenia and
Azerbaijan lie to the south. Georgia’s west coast is on the Black

invaluable independence within the borders of their beautiful

The area of Georgia totals 69.5
thousand sq. km with a population of 5.2 million inhabitants. The
nation of Georgia itself occupies the center and the west of the
area known as Transcaucasus.
The terrain of Georgia is quite
varied, Two thirds of the country is mountainous. The highest
mountain is Mt.
Shkhara rising to 5068.8 meters
above sea level. Western Georgia has a humid subtropical climate,
while Eastern Georgia is more arid. The country’s natural
resources include coal, oil, manganese, non-ferrous metals and
some non-metallic ores, Georgia’s rivers are extensively used for
generating electricity and for irrigation.
